So my black linen skirt is hanging in my bedroom doorway, waiting for the bias to stretch out. It’s so tempting to sew another one right away, it looks so nice! I have red wool and a kashi lining sitting in one of my bins that would be PERFECT for a winter skirt. Too bad it doesn’t get that cold here. Mostly just dark and rainy, like today. It’s so dark again that taking pictures just wouldn’t work.
I have some light grey linen, but it’s really not a colour I like to wear. Perhaps I should pick up an iDye packet (or two) this week, and make it into a dark purple?
This happens to be the colour palette I prefer – jewel tones for winter, and brights for summer. As I make and purchase more clothing that fits the scheme, I hope to make PolyVore outfits and wardrobe plans in the style of The Vivienne Files. So cool. I put my wardrobe into PolyVore a couple weeks ago, and it’s mostly black. Kind of depressing to look at in a picture that way, but really practical and easy to wear!
I should go sew up my trouser block now.. maybe some music would help motivate me!
I usually take black and charcoal, or brown and deep raisin (for a warmer toned person) as a “given.” Khaki and white, too, again- it depends on the individual’s coloring… I can’t wear anything like beige or khaki next to my face or I look sick sick sick but white looks fantastic on me… (Cool toned) But my besties are warm toned, and it’s the reverse for them…
I looked around to see pictures of your face, and couldn’t find any!
Those colors are lovely, I almost wonder if going for “clearer” colors in the same shades and intensities would work for you. If there’s a lot of contrast between your hair/eye and skin colors (pale skin, dark hair, blue/green or dark eyes), I would suggest trying for less muted tones. But if your coloring is more “blendy”, then the muted tones are your friends…
Don’t know if that helps, but I’m fascinated by colors on people. Living color. It’s so beautiful.
Oh and iDye is lovely, just remember to wash the dyed garment with like colors afterward. I find it *can* shed dye even after a few washes, though it usually stops after a while. Linen loves iDye, best of luck!
Black might just look good on me because I’m used to it. Browns and rusty colours look excellent on me, but beiges and greens seriously don’t – they are my mom’s! She is so golden compared to me! (PS sorry for autocorrect errors. Doing this on my iPhone while I wait to get sleepy!) I feel navy brings out the blue in my eyes, but my bff doesn’t like most shades of it on me. Idk.
I know there are no pics of my face. I need to do a new self portrait set to use. I have pale skin, light brown hair with more silver than is absolutely necessary, and dark green/blue/grey eyes. White looks awful on me, as do most shades of cream. This makes things difficult. Right now most of my tops are tshirts, and they are all brights or black. Fuchsia, teal, turquoise, red, warm and cool purples, and traffic cone orange! They work better in the summer when I get a tan through my sunscreen. :)
I don’t usually wear gold jewelry, and that gold/mustard colour doesn’t do a thing for me, but I needed something to pull it together.
I actually used to dye a lot. Wool for spinning and knitting, and fabric for SCA costumes. I just don’t have any purples, and I don’t think I have what I need to mix the right colour, so idye makes sense. Thanks for the tip about it transferring, though. That’s definitely a good thing to know!
I like iDye “Lilac”. It dyes this way on linen and I feel gorgeous when I wear it… http://3hourspast.com/2010/08/11/finished-object-blueberry-parfait/ I think it’s a cooler purple, so maybe one of the redder purples would suit you better…
For colors– I think you know what to do… Interesting that neither cream nor white look well on you… What about taupe and tan? My aunt has tan hair, tan eyes and pale tan skin… when she wears tan color she looks incredible. Might be good for you even though you have light eyes?
Just stickin’ my nose in… ;)
I know. It’s pretty weird that neither white nor cream work. Lighter tans and
taupes don’t seem to work so well on me either. I’m sure I’d be able
to find one or two shades that work, but they’re not colours I love.
I mean, I’ll wear a white shirt if I need to, but it’s not something
I’d choose to wear on a constant basis. :) Ahh, the days of retail
where I’d use my name tag to cover up the inevitable coffee spills on
my white shirt.
I still haven’t managed to get to the shop that carries iDye (going to
Granville Island is awesome, but I inevitably spend too much money and
eat too many delicious dairy-filled treats!).. they’re also the only
shop I know of that sells leather thimbles! I finally got all my hand
sewing done, but had to take it very slowly due to the pricking of my
finger. They’re usually very good about having a multitude of dyed
swatches, so I’ll choose based on those.
